Experience a Whiter and Brighter Smile

All About Our Teeth Whitening Process

Teeth whitening is basically the dental procedure undergone to regain one’s natural tooth shade or making it more white beyond his or her natural shades. Apart from treatment, foods that might cause stains in tooth, like coffee, tea smoking or chewing tobacco should be avoided to get as well as maintain a whiter teeth. A whitened teeth is essentially achieved by undergoing with some dental process like “bleaching” or “polishing”.

Why does your teeth loose its shine at all?

Tooth discoloration is caused mainly due to two main reasons:

  • Poor dental hygiene habits
  • Careless consumption of foods and beverages that cause heavy tooth staining
  • Ageing and the physical factors related to it!

It is therefore utterly important for you to have a list of the to-dos in your knowledge so far as maintaining a whiter teeth is concerned. Avoid the following, in order to retain a whiter teeth:

  • 1
Addiction to smoking and consumption of other tobacco products
  • 2
Consumption of foods containing tannin such as tea, coffee etc.
  • 3
Consuming other staining foods like beets, tomato sauce, candies, dark chocolates etc.
  • 4
Excess use of antibiotics that are harmful fro your dental health

Internal issues also cause loss of your tooth’s original color. Exposure to high levels of fluoride and antibiotics damage the tooth enamel and dentin. Trauma or accidents are unfortunate causes responsible for loss of a beautiful smile too. Finally ‘ageing’ is an important cause behind tooth discoloration. As you age, the enamel layer wears away and the dentin is exposed which easily gets stained while you are consuming different foods. Moreover, with age may tend to suffer from the condition of ‘dry mouth’. When the saliva production reduces, bacteria build up increases affecting your teeth too.

How is the whitening procedure pursued?

In order to remove stains dentist uses chemical that reacts in between the layers of teeth where stains generally occur.

Hydrogen peroxide is the generally used chemical at dental offices to give you those pearly whites! This is an active material which reacts and causes oxidation and helps breaking the stained compounds.

Dentists generally deject the use of teeth whitening toothpastes available over-the-counter (OTC) because it may destroy teeth sensitivity.

Two ways to undergo teeth whitening

Whitening can be undergone in both ways - using at-home techniques like whitening gels (available over the counter) or whitening trays & a professional in-office dental whitening.

Wondering which to go for?

Firstly, note that there are a number of differences between an in-office and an at-home whitening treatment. You should know them in order to arrive upon the right decision for yourself! Usually an in-office treatment is far more recommended than the OTC available products that are used at home. Why so? The important reasons are as follows -

  • Same day Results:  With In-office treatments, it is possible to achieve 5 to 8 shades whiter teeth on the very day of your treatment! Home -use kits need to be used again and again over a prolonged period of time.
  • Sensitivity Issues:  Incorrect usage of the at-home used whitening kits, may cause sensitivity issues. Moreover, these products should not come in contact with your gums. These details are difficult to be kept in mind, while being used at home.
  • Better and longer lasting results:  Whitening treatments that are undergone in dental offices under the supervision of professional dental experts, have proven to yield results that last much more longer than the at-home kits!

Reception was kind and efficient during new patient setup and post-appointment scheduling. Dr. MJ and her assistant were kind, informative, and skilled throughout the procedures with the right balance of knowledge and experience to provide exceptional care. There was never any point where I felt unsafe or disregarded. All financial matters were very transparent and explained well. Based on my experience today, I highly recommend this practice.

I am finally writing a review about a year after going. My visit to this dentist felt like I was on Candid Camera. The “hygenist” used a toothbrush to “clean” my teeth instead of what typical dentist offices use. She did not seem to know how to use the xray machine. When she tried to use the suction tool, the tip flew past my face nearly hitting me. At the end, the dentist came in briefly to let me know I needed multiple procedures done. I have never had any issues with my teeth. I finally got into a local reputable dentist and none of the issues Floss presented were not any issues at all. I would advise to click on each of the positive reviews and see where the reviewers reside. I would guess they are paid reviews and none live in KW.

My wife got 1 crown from here and a year later the crown fell off. She was pregnant at the time it fell off and decided to wait till after the birth of our child to go back and get it fixed due to prevent harming the baby from possible x rays. Once she called, the person on the phone said that they could not help her due to she is no longer a patient of theirs due to not going to her routine cleaning. So, she would first have to pay for a consultation and then would make a plan to get it fixed which would be an additional cost. Not liking the service we called another dentist and the dentist told us we should call back because most crowns have a 5 year warranty and should still be covered to get it fixed. After she called FLOSS, the person said they don’t have warranties. If you need a crown done , you should avoid this place because they don’t stand behind their service. *Follow up* It has been a year not years as stated by FLOSS. Please see how inconsiderate they are about the situation. Ofcourse an evaluation is needed to see if there are any other issues but for this dental office to not take in consideration the pregnancy and label my wife as “not a patient of theirs” due to not going to routine clean ups and want to charge as an out of patient for the consultation and will be an additional charge to fix ‘their’ work due to the warranty doesn’t apply to my wife anymore due for not doing routine check ups due to her pregnancy shows where their priorities are, $$$. Beware future customers.

I love this dental office, Dr. Santos is very sweet and her assistants are always going above and beyond to give the best experience getting treatment done. I recommend coming here for all your dental needs and they really do work around your schedule. Especially when I work a full week and it’s hard finding offices open on the weekend.
